Device for Quality Monitoring of Semi-Finished Products in the Manufacturing Process

The application is a device that checks semi-finished products in manufacturing for geometric dimensional accuracy and stores the measured actual values in a quality database (Q-DAS©). The transmitted data records are used for statistical evaluation in quality management. If the measured semi-finished product is OK, a production release is issued to the production line. The control is carried out using a Simatic S7-315 PN/DP.

Workflow:

• Operator login via magnetic keycard. PLC generates SQL query to the SQL database "Employee Master Data". Query result includes employee name, surname, and authorization level (operator, setter, service).
• Selection of the current product via HMI panel, alternatively via the employee number (The ERP system knows which employee is currently producing which product).
• Loading of target values and tolerances based on the current product number.
• Insertion of the semi-finished product and release for operating the device.
• Recording of actual values and writing data to a Q-DAS database (date, time, employee, product number, actual values (dimensions, ambient temperature, status (OK, NOK), etc.).
• If semi-finished products are OK, then production release is granted.

• SQL4Connector V2.x
• Connection to 3 databases (personnel database, production database, quality database)

These applications are examples that demonstrate the possibilities of a PLC/SQL database connection. Modified solutions are always possible.
