Device for quality monitoring of semi-finished products in the manufacturing process

The transferred data records are used for statistical evaluation for quality management. If the measured semi-finished product is OK, a production release is granted to the production line. Control is carried out using a Simatic S7-315 PN/DP.

Workflow:

  • Operator login using a magnetic keycard. The PLC generates an SQL query to the SQL database "Employee Master Data." The query result includes the employee's last name, first name and authorization level (Operator, Setup, Service).
  • Selection of the current product via the HMI panel, alternatively via the employee number (the ERP system knows which employee is currently manufacturing which product).
  • Loading the target values and tolerances for the current product number.
  • Inserting the semi-finished product and releasing the device for operation.
  • Capturing actual values and writing the data to a QDAS database (date, time, employee, product number, actual values (dimensions, ambient temperature, status (OK, NOK), etc.).
  • If semi-finished products are OK, then production release is granted.

Technical data:

  • Controller: Siemens Simatic S7-315 PN/DP
  • SQL4Connector V2.x
  • Connection to 3 databases (personnel database, production database, quality database)

Energy from waves: Data analysis with SQL4automation at sea

CorPower has developed a completely new type of wave energy converter for use at sea. Beckhoff TwinCAT controllers are used for monitoring and continuous system optimization. Data is collected and analyzed in SQL databases. The SQL4automation Connector transfers data easily from the controller to the database. Jakob Sagatowski from CorPower explains the solution.

Improving performance with plant data

Improving plant performance does not always require complete re-automation. For a vulcanization plant producing rubber bellows at the Continental Vahrenwald facility, the engineers decided to keep the controller and improve performance solely through greater data transparency. The prerequisite for this was simple, software-based data access from the SQL database to the controller. Angelo Bindi from Continental explains the solution.
