High-speed test stand for car tires (retrofit)

A new controller (Siemens Simatic S7) was set up in conjunction with a measurement data acquisition system on an existing customer high-speed test stand (up to 400 km/h) for passenger car tires. Various test orders are read from an ERP system and stored in a separate SQL database. From there, the test orders can be loaded into the controller and processed.

During the ongoing test, the current process values (speed, temperature, tire pressure, circumferential speed, and more) are written to a database in conjunction with the order number. When the test is aborted or successfully completed, the calculated results are written back to the existing ERP system and the order status is set.

Workflow:

  • Cyclically reading and capturing open test orders from ERP
  • Selecting a test order and mounting (setting up) the appropriate test specimen
  • Starting the test order
  • Writing the test result to ERP and setting the test status

Technical data:

  • Controller: Siemens Simatic S7-315 PN/DP
  • SQL4Connector V3.x
  • Connection to 2 databases (ERP production database, measurement data acquisition)

Energy from waves: Data analysis with SQL4automation at sea

CorPower has developed a completely new type of wave energy converter for use at sea. Beckhoff TwinCAT controllers are used for monitoring and continuous system optimization. Data is collected and analyzed in SQL databases. The SQL4automation Connector transfers data easily from the controller to the database. Jakob Sagatowski from CorPower explains the solution.

Improving performance with plant data

Improving plant performance does not always require complete re-automation. For a vulcanization plant producing rubber bellows at the Continental Vahrenwald facility, the engineers decided to keep the controller and improve performance solely through greater data transparency. The prerequisite for this was simple, software-based data access from the SQL database to the controller. Angelo Bindi from Continental explains the solution.
